About Gerry

My name is Gerry Saguin, and I’m running to serve you on Lethbridge City Council. I bring with me a lifetime of leadership grounded in faith, resilience, and a deep commitment to community. I believe in a Lethbridge where every resident — regardless of age, background, or income — feels safe, supported, and proud to call this city home.

My journey began in the Philippines, where I was raised by parents who modeled service and sacrifice. My father, Rene, was a decorated Air Force pilot and celebrated poet. After his tragic passing when I was just 13, my mother, Carmen, raised six children on her own with quiet strength and unwavering determination. From her, I learned the values that have guided my life: humility, perseverance, and faith.

I earned a place at the Philippine Military Academy as a government scholar, but following the 1986 People Power Revolution, my family made the courageous decision to seek a new life in North America. I worked my way up through roles on cruise ships, in call centers, and later in management. In 1991, I made Canada my permanent home.

Throughout my career, I’ve also served as a columnist, editor, television host, and cultural organizer, always using every opportunity to uplift the communities around me. In time, I met my wife, Joy, and together we’ve built a life in Lethbridge rooted in service, family, and faith.
